everyone's obsession with obsidian is great - video notes
video notes
You can watch the orignal video here.
There was a big gap between writing the script and the final edit, so naturally some things have changed a bit. For one, Obsidian has gotten a lot more popular!!
The second are some clarifications I’d like to make. I kinda rushed the script for some parts of the video and there’s a whole lot of things that I glossed over.
First, the entire point of this video is that plaintext is basically the digital equivalent of writing physically on a piece of paper. Meaning, you have the agency to take that piece of paper and lock it in a safe, display it on your wall, make copies of it and mail it to your friends, or tear it into pieces. There’s no third party telling you what you can’t and can do with it. And you can always, forever read it. It’s not gonna suddenly be a jumble of symbols when the paper company decides that you need to buy Paper 2.0.
Second, I glossed over A WHOLE LOT of everything that I talk about in the video. That’s somewhat intentional. But if you’re interested in things like file organization and the database structure of wikis, that’s something I plan to make videos about one day.
Thirdly, I’d like to clarify that when I’m saying “clear that someone is trying to take away your agency,” that is NOT a like, legal accusation. Just covering my bases. But it does feel very much true.
…also, next year brings a big change!
